The RICHARDSON Story
- John grew up in Wisconsin and still embraces those humble roots with his passion for music, Busch Light and the love for meeting new friends and sharing stories and putting smiles on faces. The intent is to bring a little bit of Nashville's Broadway to you with classic to current country songs with humor and some great story telling.
- After a (20 year) hiatus from performing live music to raise his (2) daughters, get a divorce, and find true love with his wife Cindy. John is ready to jump off the cliff and start his solo acoustic performance phase of life. "Go after what you want and you do you"!
- During the 90's, John played bass guitar with the popular Midwest bands BADWOLF and The WIZENHIEMERS recording as well as playing many live shows from Madison to New York. Ironically the BADWOLF brothers (Charles Thomas, Rob Jolin, Wade Otis, John Richardson) reunited in 2023, and are currently working on recording a new album of original music with 12 new BADWOLF songs anticipated release of Winter 2024. https://soundcloud.com/badwolfmadison

HAPY NEW YEAR!!
Now that 2024 has ended, I’m sending out some gratitude and a quick backstory on why we do what we do. In 2022 my wife Cindy was wrapping up her bachelor’s degree and I needed something to occupy my time. We fell in love with Nashville over the years and I really liked the intimate relationships with music and humor between the crowds and the Solo Acoustic Musicians on Broadway.
In 1997, I had gone back to college after playing bass guitar in local bands and traded most of my music gear for a 00-15 Martin Parlor acoustic guitar. That Martin guitar hung (un-played..)on the wall in every apartment and house that I lived in for the next 25+years (if that guitar could talk🤫). With Cindy busy at school, I grabbed the Martin off the wall and started learning some chords (Im a bass player!! I only play one string 😊). In “woodshedding” style, I worked every night on chords and songs that I would not murder or embarrass myself. I soon realized that by playing this acoustic guitar, my world had been missing music and immediately used this as my therapy and continue to do so! In early 2023 a co worker asked if I had any interest in playing at his family’s Vineyard that upcoming Summer. I jumped off that cliff and agreed to this show. I worked harder than ever on trying not to shit the bed with this silly idea of playing in front of people by myself.
Note: I often refer to “Richardson Acoustic” as “WE” even though it’s just me playing the music. This is because from the initial concept of performing as a SAM, Cindy has consistently pushed me to do things I never thought were possible. This RA machine would not exist without my wife and Im so blessed and thankful for her being my partner, motivator, therapist, life coach, string changer, volume director, cord wrapper, accountant, Jameson Fairy, chicken strip getter, photo/video journalist, social media influencer and all of the million other behind the curtain things that she does daily at our shows. My mantra is “if Cindy doesn’t want to do this: we stop doing this!” Until then, I’m going to embrace this roller coaster ride with my wife by my side and be present with each other to appreciate all the blessings we have and this awesome opportunity ❤️!
Starting in the fall of 2023 I played (10) shows and it sparked some fire from within. I know Im not great but I don’t suck… so I figured what the hell! 😊 Now that we wrapped up 2024, Richardson Acoustic has played (88) additional performances in Wisconsin and Illinois and we currently have (65) upcoming performances booked for 2025 in Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio and we are still booking shows. Being gracious and humble are key components in my life and I am so thankful to all of our Venue partners that gave me the opportunity to perform and I look forward to returning in 2025. To all of my family and friends and all of those that just support local live music and put up with me making noise and dumb jokes; I thank you from the bottom of my heart and can’t wait to see you out in 2025 tapping your foot, dancing and singing along (just don’t throw salt shakers 😜)
In 2025, I’m working to get some of my original music recorded as well as spending time in some co writing sessions to collaborate in making new music.
I also am so excited for the new Badwolf album release this spring and the Badwolf shows with my brothers Wade M Otis, Robert Joseph Jolin, Charles Thomas (including performing at Bratfest in May🤘)
